You can find many Reno jobs for entry level workers. There are many different reasons why people move to this exciting city. Nevada has legalized gambling, of course, but there is so much more to see and do

You will find many entry level jobs in the hospitality industry. If you don’t have any previous experience, you may find it hard to find Reno jobs that have to do with card dealers, but you can find many casino jobs to start out with. There are many positions doing basic janitorial work, doing dishes, busing tables, and cleaning hotel casino rooms. You can work as a bar back, helping bar tenders keep their alcohol well stocked, and even doing front desk work. Many of these positions start out as part time work, because there are so many other people just like you who are also settling down here, but an ambitious person can move up the ladder to full time positions quickly.

There are also plenty of good jobs in sales and distribution, and there are many different retail stores accepting applications, not just for sales, but also for stocking shelves, cashiering, and delivery drivers. It is a good idea to have a driver’s license, because there are many different local and regional driving opportunities in and around the Reno area.

In order to get the best entry level jobs, you really need to have a high school diploma, or the equivalent. Those that don’t are going to have a harder time finding good paying jobs, even at entry level, that are more than minimum wage. If you have experience and education in accounting, web design, and computer software or programming, there are ample positions available.

Because this area is growing by leaps and bounds, you can even find many entry level Reno jobs in the construction industry. Not only are people moving here more and more, but many of these people are environmentally conscious, meaning that if you have an inclination for alternative energy systems, solar, or wind power, you can get into this field fairly easily. If you are interested in working for yourself, this is a prime location for starting a number of different Green businesses.

In order to get the best kinds of entry level jobs, here in Reno or anywhere else for that matter, it is a good idea to write up a good resume. These days, almost every employer not only requires a resume, but also does most of their hiring through the internet. You too can find just about any kind of job in Reno using online services like Monster, and other job listing agencies, as well as websites that can help you put together a comprehensive resume, one that will stand out from the long list of other applicants. If you want to find a good job in the Reno area, it is a good idea to look up listings online, find the right one for you, and do some research on the company, or business ahead of time.

There’s plenty of Budweiser to be had, several regional beer-making operations have taken hold in recent years, making Reno a worthwhile destination for connoisseurs as well as rowdy vacationers looking for a touch of local flavor. Here’s what to expect from some of the area’s best taphouses:

Great Basin Brewery (846 Victorian Ave., Sparks, greatbasinbrewingco.com) Perhaps the most respected microbrewery in Nevada, Great Basin generally offers four flagship beers and a rotating cast of six seasonal brews along with excellent fish and chips, shepherd’s pie and other gourmet bar grub. Beers such as the Ichthyosaur India Pale Ale continue to win national awards some 15 years after they were introduced. Don’t be deterred by the Sparks address — Great Basin is closer to the downtown Reno tourist area than many attractions, and on a summer night when the Sparks Hometowne Farmer’s Market is in full swing, it’s the best place around to grab a drink.

Sierra Tap House (253 West First St., myspace.com/sierrataphouse) The Sierra Tap House is the type of place that makes you remember why people have been going to bars for centuries. A smallish basement-level pub that faces the Truckee River, the Tap House is attractive, intimate and communal. In addition to serving a wide range of beers from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. that you’re unlikely to find elsewhere, the bar hosts social events such as trivia nights and home-brewed beer contests. It can get fairly crowded, but the general upbeat attitude means fights and other “college night” problems are rare.

Silver Peak Grill & Taproom (135 N. Sierra St. and 124 Wonder St., silverpeakbrewery.com) The two locations of this Reno stalwart tend to attract different crowds, but they share most of the same award-winning beers and upscale dishes. The Sierra Street venue draws a downtown club set interested in mingling, while the Wonder Street shop is geared more for dining and relaxing. Both feature outdoor dining during all but the coldest months, with the rooftop patio on Wonder Street being one of the most pleasant lunch spots in Reno. Silver Peak’s owners constantly emphasize that they are “a restaurant that makes its own beer” rather than just another bar, and indeed the food is good and unexpected. But the Red Roadster, Peavine Porter and the house IPA are the real stars here.

The Brew Brothers (345 N. Virginia Street inside the Eldorado casino, eldoradoreno.com) The Brew Brothers presents a conundrum to any beer fan. A Reno casino bar and grill that hosts frequent rock concerts and dance parties, it’s the sort of place locals love to hate — and yet, it’s always crowded with people having a good time. The beer selection, which may or may not pass through the copper-plated brewing equipment on full view in the bar area, is pretty standard microbrew fare and a definite step down from the brews mentioned elsewhere on this list — and yet, it constantly wins local “best of” contests. In short, you should go to Brew Brothers for the atmosphere and nightlife, and if you discover that you like the beer as well, that’s just gravy. A decent food menu is also available late into the night.

Shenanigans Olde English Pub (77 W. Plumb Lane) Generally agreed to be as close to an authentic English pub as you’re going to get in the middle of the West, Shenanigans imports many European beers and liquors and serves them in a relaxed environment. It may not be the best spot to find a date, but if you want to unwind with a Harp or a Guinness Double Stout while watching rugby, it’s perfect. The food is surprisingly good as well.

Becks Brew House (3611 King’s Row, becksbrewhouse.com) Becks Brew House, a new lounge retrofitted from a failed college bar, focuses on unusual beers from around the country, as well as outside of it. The decor now leans toward hardwood floors and leather furniture, and there are several distinct areas with different lighting and seating schemes. An advanced ventilation system designed to trap smoke in the smoking section without walling it off seems to work well.

Buckbean Brewing Co. (1155 S. Rock Blvd., buckbeanbeer.com) Buckbean Brewing Company is less than two years old and still focuses more on making and distributing beer than on creating a venue of its own. The brewery hosts frequent daytime tours and tastings of its Orange Blossom and Black Noddy brews, but to get them after hours, you’ll have to head to one of Buckbean’s client bars (check the Web site). You can also buy Buckbean canned at local grocery stores.

Reno Homebrewer (2335 Dickerson Road, renohomebrewer.com) For the most serious of beer fans, this is heaven. Reno Homebrewer has been training and equipping amateur brewers and vinters for decades, and several of the trainers have won national awards for their own creations. Since the shop is more a showroom than a bar, it’s best to call ahead, especially if you’re interested in taking a class. But for those interested in the art and science of making beer and wine, this is an unmissable stop.

These companies are licensed by the state and all you need to do to get started is get in touch with them through their official web site. The Division of Insurance also helps handle disputes regarding Nevada health insurance that you might have with your insurance provider. Here, you need to fill an online form and thus lodge your complaint.

The Labor Department

The US Labor Department is the body that is responsible for handling the medical insurance policies that you get through your job. These Nevada health insurance policies are taken care of by the EBSA – Employee Benefits Security Administration which creates as well as enforces the laws that should be followed by your employer while they are offering insurance benefits for health to their employees. For instance, your employer cannot single out an employee for excluding them from a certain insurance plan in Nevada on the grounds that they are terminally ill or their illness requires expensive treatment.

If the total number of employees reaches 20, the employee should be offered COBRA benefits which is actually continuation coverage in case you have left your job. The task of the EBSA is to ensure that everything happens according to the rules and that the rights of the employee are protected.

If you have anxieties regarding the practices of your employer, about carrying out their insurance responsibilities to their employees, you can get in touch with your local EBSA office. These are situations where you feel you have been terminated on unjustified grounds or that you deserved COBRA continuation, but it was not given to you.

How to Purchase Individual Health Insurance Plans in Nevada

Nevada insurers are permitted by the state to reject your insurance application for medical coverage on the basis of the status of your health. But then, you may be considered as HIPAA eligible on the following grounds:

If you have had a minimum of 18 months’ continuous creditable coverage with its last day falling under a group plan
If you have exhausted your existing COBRA continuation coverage

In case you happen to be HIPAA eligible, you can purchase insurance through the Nevada Comprehensive Health Insurance Risk Pool Association. For doubts, you can clarify the terms with your insurance agent or Nevada Division of Insurance. The State Children’s Health Insurance Program covers kids below 19 if their family meets certain income requirements. The State Health Insurance Assistance Program offers free counseling for Medicare beneficiaries. Nevada Medicaid helps the poor obtain medical acre. Children below 19 years and pregnant women are eligible along with the aged, blind or physically handicapped people on meeting certain criteria.

Reno is located nine hours and a hundred light years away from Sin City. Reno’s in Northern Nevada, in the high desert, and the temperatures aren’t as extreme as Las Vegas. It snows sometime in the winter in Reno, but usually melts within a day or two, which means you can hit trails throughout the Reno area (called the Truckee Meadows), in almost all seasons. Summertime usually doesn’t stay that hot for that long, and the summer evenings are warm enough for a great ride but not so warm that it feels to hot to exercise.

Up in the mountains, there are wonderful summertime trails that circle Lake Tahoe and can take you just about anywhere, from Tahoe’s beaches to the Desolation Wilderness and back again. Mountain biking in Reno is an awesome experience because there are so many different types of trails available, from high Sierra to high desert, and you are so close to so many trails, it’s easy to reach a new trail every day if you’d like. There are flat trails along the Truckee River to arduous trails up in the mountains, but they all will draw you and you bike back again and again.

Even better, there are many urban trails within 5 to 10 minutes of downtown Reno. Some climb the foothills of Peavine Peak on the northern boundaries of the city, while others climb the canyons and flats of Northwest Reno, the Steamboat Ditch, and South Reno. You can literally bring your mountain bike with you to work and get in a ride when you get done for the day.

Mountain biking in Reno is fun for the entire family, and there are many bike shops in Reno that will help you find everything to begin your mountain biking adventure. If there’s anything to remember about biking in the area, it’s the elevation. Reno is almost a mile high, and Tahoe starts at about 6,000 feet and goes up from there. Breathing may be a little bit different in these high altitudes, so you may need to take it easy when you first begin to ride, but you’ll get used to the thinner air in no time.

Another great thing about Reno mountain biking is there are many bike lanes on city streets. You can follow these bike lanes to mountain biking trails, making it easier to get around on your bike when you visit Reno. Reno really is America’s Adventure Place, and the mountain biking trails that surround Reno really start you off in the right adventure direction!

Reno is considered as one of the best places to live, relocate a family or to launch a business or career.

Nevada has already heeded the call of renewables. Plans for two coal-fired generating plants in White Pine County – by LS Power and Nevada Energy – have been canceled. Another coal-fired plant near Mesquite hit the skids earlier in the year.

Cap-and-trade, which threatens to make global warming emissions incrementally more expensive over time, is one of the bigger incentives to move away from coal, oil and natural gas. But another, a $3.2-billion provision hidden away in the economic stimulus bill passed in February, gives power companies in the West access to low-cost loans via the Western Power Authority that will help extend the nation’s transmission system to incorporate renewable energies like solar.

It’s a first step toward a smarter grid, and an essential step if renewable alternatives like solar and wind farms, commonly built well outside inhabited areas, are to reach the thousands in cities who need more energy, and would prefer it clean and green.

At least, this is the conclusion reached by a new Roper survey, which shows that almost 90 percent of Americans think new home construction should offer a solar option. This is up from 79 percent a year ago, according to the study commissioned by Sharp Electronics Corp.

The $3.2 provision, introduced by Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nv.), the current Senate Majority head, solves a long-standing Catch 22: investors are reluctant to finance renewable projects unless the transmission lines exist to transport it. But investors are also reluctant to invest in transmission lines until said renewable projects are up and running.

Up to now, the solution to this dilemma has been to build more fossil-fuel plants close to existing plants and tie the plant in to existing transmission. Coal-fired plants are cheap to build, domestic coal is believed to be plentiful, and is also inexpensive, allowing builders to recoup their construction costs quite rapidly.

But let’s go back to that plentiful coal. According to a report released by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) late in 2008, coal reserves in the Gillette, Wyoming field are – thanks to reevaluation and a redefining of the term “accessible” – a scarce 6 percent of previous estimates.

Another report from 2007, which dismisses previous methods of evaluating coal reserves, suggests that actual coal reserves across the country might be much smaller than previously supposed. In effect, say some experts, the U.S. only has enough coal to last about 20 years.

In light of this, it suddenly makes sense to build a $500-million line between Las Vegas and Ely to carry solar power. And both LS Power and NV Energy, having scrapped coal plans, are going ahead with transmission planning, because Nevada – with its 2005 mandate on utilities to provide 9 percent from renewables – is finally catching up, even if four years late.

Nevada’s Senate Bill 358, which will allow NV Energy to recover conservation losses through higher rates, is another incentive to go green, even though regional enviros regard it as a utility bailout.

Reno is a worthwhile destination for connoisseurs as well as rowdy vacationers looking for a touch of local flavor.
